Learn to Fly

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How old do I have to be?

  • For a Student Pilot Certificate (required to solo) 16 years old
  • For a Private Pilot License – 17 years old

Are there other requirements?

  • You must be able to read, write and understand English
  • You must pass an FAA medical exam
  • You must pass a written knowledge test
  • You must pass an oral and practical flight test

How long will it take?

  • Depending on how often you fly (2-3 times per week is recommended) which at this pace, you should complete the program in 4-6 months.

How much does it cost?

  • This will vary depending on frequency of lessons, motivation and study habits. As a rough estimate, you can expect to spend $6,500 training in a C-152 and roughly $8000 training in a C-172.  The good news is that it is a pay-as-you-go program, so you don’t have to have all the money upfront.

  • Yes!  We offer financing options through Sallie Mae.  Applications are available in the office.

Do I have to attend classes?

  • No.  With our Cessna Interactive Study Courses, most of your studying can be done on your home computer at your convenience with very little one-on-one ground school lessons with your instructor.
